Resize image to 1920 × 1080 in 3 steps

  1. Select one or more images. 1920 × 1080 px with Fill and crop the edges is already set.
  2. Choose Fit the whole picture if nothing may be cut off.
  3. Click Resize image and download the Full HD files.

Wallpapers and screens

A 1920 × 1080 picture fills a Full HD monitor or TV pixel for pixel, so it looks sharp and the operating system does not have to stretch or tile it. Phone photos are 4:3 or taller, so Fill and crop the edges trims the top and bottom to reach the 16:9 shape. For a tall photo used as a wallpaper, Fit the whole picture keeps everything and adds bars on the sides, white for JPG and transparent for PNG.

Avoid Stretch to fill for photos. It makes faces and buildings look wide. It is only fine for textures, gradients and abstract backgrounds where nobody can tell.

Slides, video and screen recordings

PowerPoint, Google Slides and Keynote all use 16:9 as their usual widescreen shape, and 1920 × 1080 is the common Full HD size for it. An image at exactly that size fills a slide edge to edge without the program resizing it. In video editors, a 1920 × 1080 still drops straight into a Full HD timeline with no black bars and no zoom.

The same size works for many other 16:9 places: website hero images, event screens and digital signage. Check each platform for its own minimum and file size limit; a YouTube channel banner, for example, needs at least 2048 × 1152 and YouTube recommends 2560 × 1440.

Making a small image bigger

You can type 1920 × 1080 for a picture that is smaller, and it will be scaled up smoothly. It will not gain detail, so a 640-pixel image blown up three times looks soft on a large screen. Start from the biggest version you can find, and keep the file as JPG for photos and PNG for screenshots with text.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image to 1920 × 1080 without stretching?

Keep Fill and crop the edges or choose Fit the whole picture. Both keep the proportions; only Stretch to fill distorts.

Can I resize several images to 1920 × 1080 at once?

Yes, up to 20 images at a time for free.

Will the quality drop?

Scaling a large photo down to Full HD keeps it sharp. Scaling a small image up makes it softer.

What happens to a vertical photo?

Fill and crop keeps only a 16:9 band from the middle. Fit the whole picture keeps it all, with bars on both sides.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are resized in your browser on your device.
