What is inside an ICO file
An ICO file is a bundle of the same icon at several sizes, often 16, 32 and 48 pixels for a favicon and up to 256 pixels for a Windows icon. The converter reads every image in the bundle, whether it is stored as PNG or as an old-style Windows bitmap with a transparency mask, and saves it as a PNG with its transparent background.
Choose Largest size only to get the sharpest version as one PNG, ready to edit or upload. Choose Every size to get each size as its own PNG, named by its dimensions, in a ZIP. Windows cursor files (.cur) are read the same way.

How do I convert ICO to PNG?
Select the ICO file and click Convert to PNG. By default you get the largest image inside the icon as a PNG. Choose Every size to get all the sizes it contains, packed in a ZIP and named like icon-32x32.png.
Is the transparent background kept?
Yes. Both modern PNG-based icons and older bitmap icons with a transparency mask are converted with their transparent areas intact, so the PNG works on any background.
How do I get a website's favicon as a PNG?
Open the site's address followed by /favicon.ico in your browser, save the file, then select it here. You get the icon as a PNG, which most editors and slide tools accept, unlike ICO.
Can I make a bigger PNG from a small icon?
The PNG has the same size as the image stored in the icon. A 16 or 32-pixel favicon looks blurry if it is enlarged a lot. Use Resize Image afterwards for moderate enlargements, or look for a larger version of the logo.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Images are decoded and converted inside your browser on your own device, so scans of documents and private photos are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
