From LibreOffice Calc to Excel
ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet) is the default format of LibreOffice Calc and OpenOffice. Excel can open many ODS files, but not always cleanly, and colleagues, clients and upload forms often ask for XLSX. The converter reads every sheet of the ODS file and writes an Excel workbook with the same values, formulas, number and date formats, merged cells and column widths.
Fonts, cell colours, borders, charts and images are not copied, because the converter focuses on the data rather than the look. Formulas are written in Excel syntax with their last calculated result, so functions that exist only in LibreOffice may show an error in Excel.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert ODS to XLSX?
Select the ODS file and click Convert to XLSX. The Excel workbook downloads straight away with all its sheets. You can convert up to 20 files at once and download them together in a ZIP.
Can Excel open ODS files directly?
Recent versions of Excel can open ODS, but formatting and some formulas may change, and Excel on phones or older computers may refuse the file. Converting to XLSX gives a workbook that every version of Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers accepts.
Are formulas kept?
Yes. Formulas are translated from the OpenDocument syntax into Excel syntax and saved together with their last calculated values. Functions that only exist in LibreOffice Calc cannot be calculated by Excel and show an error there.
What about colours, charts and images?
They are not carried over. The converter keeps the data: values, formulas, number formats, merged cells and column widths. If the look of the sheet matters, use File, Save As in LibreOffice and choose the Excel 2007-365 format instead.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded to a server?
No. The workbook is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so customer lists, prices and payroll data are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it works even offline.
