Split Excel in 3 steps
- Select your Excel workbook, or drop it on the box.
- Click Split workbook.
- Download the ZIP with one XLSX file per sheet.
Send each person only their sheet
A workbook with a tab per region, client, class or month is handy for you, but each person usually needs only their part, and some tabs should not be shared at all. Splitting gives you one file per sheet, named after the sheet, so you can send them out without copying and pasting.
Values, number formats, column widths and merged cells are kept in every file. Formulas that point to other sheets cannot work once the sheets are separated, so each cell keeps its last calculated value.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split an Excel file into multiple files?
Select the workbook and click Split workbook. Each sheet is saved as its own XLSX file named after the sheet, and you download them all together in a ZIP.
Are hidden sheets included?
Yes. Every sheet in the workbook becomes a file, including hidden ones, so check the ZIP before sending files to others.
What happens to formulas that use other sheets?
They are saved with their last calculated value, because the sheet they point to is in a different file. Values look the same as in the original workbook.
Can I split one sheet into several files by rows?
Not yet. This tool splits a workbook by sheets. To split a long table, filter it in Excel and copy each part to its own sheet first.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so customer lists, prices and payroll data are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it works even offline.
