Pick the right size for where the image goes
Websites rarely show images wider than 1920 pixels, emails and blog posts look fine at 1280, and Instagram displays posts at 1080 pixels wide. Resizing to the width you actually need makes files several times smaller and pages load faster.
The height is always calculated from the width, so nothing is stretched or squashed. Images are never enlarged when you choose a width bigger than the original, because upscaling only makes a picture blurrier. Transparent PNG and WebP images keep their transparency.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Make it smaller, never bigger. Reducing the size keeps the image sharp because there is more than enough detail to fill fewer pixels. Enlarging has to invent pixels, which always looks soft, so this tool never upscales.
How do I resize an image to a specific width in pixels?
Choose one of the pixel widths in the New size menu, such as 1280 or 1080 pixels. The height is adjusted automatically to keep the original proportions, and the new dimensions are added to the file name.
How do I make an image 50 KB or 100 KB?
File size depends on compression as much as on dimensions. Resize the image here first, then use Compress Image and pick "Under 50 KB" or "Under 100 KB". The combination reaches small sizes while keeping the picture as sharp as possible.
How do I resize an image for Instagram without cropping?
Choose 1080 px wide. Instagram shows posts at that width, so the photo is uploaded without being compressed again by the app. Your full image is kept; Instagram may still crop the preview if the photo is very tall.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded you could even disconnect from the internet and it would keep working.
