Resize image to 2000 × 2000 for product photos

A 2000-pixel square is a safe size for online shop photos: big enough for zoom, small enough to load fast, and the same shape across the whole catalogue.

Set to: Width (px): 2000 · Height (px): 2000 · Fit the whole picture (add borders)

Shopify and Etsy sizes

Shopify's help centre says a square product image of 2048 × 2048 pixels usually displays best, and accepts images up to 5000 × 5000 pixels and under 20 MB. 2000 × 2000 is practically the same on screen; if you want Shopify's exact figure, type 2048 in both boxes.

For Etsy, seller guides say listing photos should be at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side, in 4:3 or square. We could not open Etsy's own help page to confirm it, so check Etsy's current photo requirements in your shop manager. A 2000 × 2000 square meets that figure either way.

White borders or a tight crop

Fit the whole picture keeps the entire product and fills the leftover space. For JPG files the fill is pure white, so a product shot on a white background looks seamless and nothing is cut off. A PNG with transparency gets transparent edges instead.

If your photo has a coloured or textured background, white bars on two sides will look like a frame. Switch to Fill and crop the edges, which fills the square with the photo itself and trims the long sides. Check that the product is centred first, because the trim is centred.

A consistent grid

Collection pages look tidy when every photo has the same shape. Select all the photos for a product, or a whole batch, and each comes out at 2000 × 2000 as its own file. A JPG stays JPG and a PNG stays PNG.

Do not enlarge small pictures much. A 600-pixel photo blown up to 2000 meets the size but turns soft when a buyer zooms in. Reshoot or use the original camera file.

Frequently asked questions

Shopify says square images of 2048 × 2048 px usually display best, with a maximum of 5000 × 5000 px and 20 MB.

Will the product be cut off?

Not with Fit the whole picture: the whole photo stays and white borders fill the gaps. Fill and crop trims the edges instead.

No. They are resized in your browser on your device.
