Page numbers for theses, contracts and reports
Universities, courts and clients often ask for numbered pages, and a numbered document is much easier to discuss: "see page 14" beats "the page after the chart". This tool writes a small, clean number on every page in the position you pick, as "1", "Page 1" or "1 of 10".
If the first pages are a cover or an index and numbering should start later in the count, set the first number accordingly. The numbers are added as real text, the rest of the page is not modified, and landscape or rotated pages get their number in the right place.

How do I add page numbers to a PDF for free?
Select your PDF, choose where the numbers go and their format, and click Add numbers. The numbered PDF downloads straight away, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
Yes. Type the first number in Start at. For example, if your PDF continues a document that ended on page 40, start at 41 and the pages are numbered 41, 42, 43 and so on.
Can I write "Page 1 of 10"?
Choose the format 1 of 10 and every page shows its number together with the total, such as 3 of 10. The Page 1 format writes the word Page before each number.
Do page numbers work on landscape and rotated pages?
Yes. The position is worked out from the way the page is displayed, so a landscape page gets its number at the bottom as you see it, not along the side.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, statements and other private documents are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
