PDF to CSV in 3 steps

  1. Select your PDF, or drop it on the box.
  2. Choose one CSV per page or one for the whole PDF, and the separator.
  3. Click Convert to CSV and download the file, or a ZIP with one CSV per page.

Clean data from PDF tables

The tables are found the same way as in PDF to Excel: grids drawn with lines, columns separated by white space, descriptions that wrap onto two lines and headers repeated on every page. The CSV then gets plain values that any program can read: 1,234.56 is written 1234.56, (500) becomes -500, currency signs are dropped and percentages stay like 12.5%. Codes with leading zeros, such as 02134 or 000125, keep their zeros, and the file is UTF-8 with a mark that tells Excel to show accents correctly.

With the semicolon separator, decimals are written with a comma (1234,56), which is what Excel expects in Spain, France, Germany, Italy and most of Europe; choose comma for Google Sheets, US and UK Excel and most software. A scanned PDF has no text inside, so it needs OCR first. If you want bold headers, merged cells and number formats, use PDF to Excel instead.

Frequently asked questions

Comma or semicolon: which separator should I choose?

Choose comma for Google Sheets, Excel in English and most apps and databases. Choose semicolon if your Excel uses a decimal comma, as in Spain, France, Germany or Italy: the numbers are then written 1234,56 so Excel reads them as numbers when it opens the file.

Why do I get a ZIP file?

With one CSV per page, a PDF with several pages gives one CSV for each page that has a table, packed in a ZIP so you download them in one click. Choose All pages in one CSV to get a single file, with the repeated header kept only once.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to CSV?

No. A scanned PDF is a picture of the paper with no text inside, so there is nothing to put in the CSV. The tool tells you when a PDF has no text. Run the scan through OCR (text recognition) software first, then convert the result.

How are amounts like $1,234.50 or (500) written?

As plain numbers: 1234.50 and -500, without currency signs or thousands separators, so imports and formulas read them correctly. Decimal places are kept as in the PDF. Text cells, dates and codes such as invoice numbers are written exactly as they appear.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so bank statements, invoices and payroll reports are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
