From Word styles to Markdown syntax
Word headings become # headings, bold and italic become ** and *, bulleted and numbered lists keep their nesting, tables become GitHub-flavoured Markdown tables and links keep their address. Characters that mean something in Markdown, such as * or _, are escaped so your text does not turn bold by accident. The result is plain UTF-8 text that reads well even before it is rendered.
If the document has pictures, they are saved as separate image files in a folder next to the .md file and linked from it, and you download both together in a ZIP. Markdown has no fonts, colours or page layout, so those are left out. Tables with merged cells are flattened, because Markdown tables cannot merge cells.

How do I convert DOCX to Markdown?
Select the DOCX file and click Convert to Markdown. A .md file downloads straight away; if the document contains pictures, you get a ZIP with the .md file and a folder of images. It works for up to 20 documents at a time.
Which Markdown flavour does it produce?
Standard CommonMark with GitHub-flavoured tables and strikethrough, which GitHub, GitLab, Obsidian, Notion, Docusaurus, MkDocs and most static site generators understand. Superscript and subscript are written as small HTML tags, which these tools also accept.
Why convert Word to Markdown for AI tools?
Language models read Markdown very well: headings, lists and tables keep the structure of the document in a compact form, without the noise of a DOCX file. Converting first usually gives better answers than pasting text copied straight out of Word.
What happens to merged cells and complex layouts?
Markdown tables are simple grids, so a merged cell keeps its text in its first column and the others stay empty. Text boxes become normal paragraphs, and charts or drawings that are not pictures are left out.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, CVs, reports and notes are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
