Unlock PDF in 3 steps

  1. Select the locked PDF, or drop it on the box.
  2. If the PDF asks for a password to open, type it in.
  3. Click Unlock PDF and download a copy without protection.

Two kinds of PDF protection

Some PDFs open normally but will not let you print, copy text or fill them in. Those restrictions are set with an owner password that you never need to type, and this tool removes them directly: the unlocked copy prints, copies and edits like any other PDF.

Other PDFs ask for a password before they open at all, like many bank statements and payslips. In that case type the password once and you get a copy that opens without it, so you do not have to look it up every time. The tool does not guess or crack passwords: without the open password, the content stays encrypted.

Frequently asked questions

Can I unlock a PDF without the password?

If the PDF opens but blocks printing, copying or editing, yes: those restrictions are removed without any password. If the PDF asks for a password to open, you need to know it, because the content is encrypted with it.

How do I remove the password from a bank statement PDF?

Select the statement, type the password you normally use to open it (often a date of birth or part of your ID number, as your bank explains) and click Unlock PDF. The new copy opens without asking.

Is it legal to unlock a PDF?

Removing protection from your own documents, or from files you are allowed to use, is fine. Do not use it to get around the rights of someone else, such as copying a protected book or report you have not paid for.

Why does it say the password is wrong?

Passwords are case-sensitive, so check capital letters and that your keyboard is set to the right language. Some banks change the password format over time; their website usually explains which one applies to a given statement.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, statements and other private documents are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
