OpenDocument files, ready to share

ODT is the text format of LibreOffice, OpenOffice and many schools and public administrations, but people without those programs often cannot open it. The converter reads the ODT file in your browser, with its styles resolved like LibreOffice does: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic and underlined text, fonts, sizes and colours, alignment and spacing, bulleted and numbered lists, tables with merged cells and backgrounds, pictures, links, page size and margins, headers and footers with page numbers, and footnotes.

The pages are laid out again with fonts that match the widths of the common ones (Liberation Serif and Times New Roman, Liberation Sans and Arial, Carlito and Calibri), so line breaks are close to the original but can move slightly. Drawings, charts, frames positioned freely on the page and tracked changes are not included. When every detail must match, use Export as PDF in LibreOffice.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ODT file?

ODT (OpenDocument Text) is an open document format, like DOCX, used by LibreOffice Writer, Apache OpenOffice and Collabora. Google Docs can also download documents as ODT. It is an ISO standard, so many governments and schools require it.

Will the PDF look the same as in LibreOffice?

Very close in most documents: page size, margins, headings, lists, tables and pictures are kept, using fonts with the same letter widths. Line breaks can move a little, and drawings, charts and freely positioned frames may be missing.

Can I convert ODT to PDF without LibreOffice?

Yes. That is what this page is for: the conversion runs in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so you do not need to install LibreOffice or OpenOffice to send someone a PDF of the document.

Is the text in the PDF searchable?

Yes. The PDF contains real text rather than pictures of the pages, so it can be searched, copied and read aloud, and links stay clickable. Characters the built-in fonts lack, such as Chinese or emoji, are drawn as small pictures so they still show.

Is my document uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, CVs, reports and letters are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
