  2. Click Convert to JPG.
  3. Download each JPG, or all of them in a ZIP.

What a JFIF file actually is

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is the same kind of image as a JPG, but Windows and some browsers save it with the .jfif extension, and many upload forms, printers and apps reject the file because they only look at the name.

Converting gives you a file with the .jpg extension that is accepted everywhere. The picture is re-saved at high quality, so it looks the same as before.

Frequently asked questions

What is a JFIF file?

A JFIF file is a JPEG image saved with the .jfif extension instead of .jpg. The image inside is the same kind of data, but some programs and websites refuse it because they do not recognise the extension.

Why do my images save as JFIF?

A Windows registry setting decides which extension is used for JPEG images when you save them from a browser. On many computers it is set to .jfif, so pictures saved from websites end up as JFIF files.

Is JFIF the same as JPEG?

Practically yes. JFIF is the standard file layout used by most JPEG images. The difference is only the extension, but that is enough for some upload forms and apps to reject the file.

Can I just rename .jfif to .jpg?

Often that works, because the content is already JPEG. Converting is the safer option: it produces a clean, standard JPG that every program accepts, and it lets you fix many files at once.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The tool runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded you could even disconnect from the internet and it would keep working.
