What you get when you convert a PDF to Word
The converter reads the text of every page and rebuilds it as real Word paragraphs, not as a picture of the page. Headings keep their size, bold and italic words stay bold and italic, lists stay lists, photos and logos are placed where they were, and two-column layouts are read in the right order. You can fix a typo, rewrite a paragraph or copy whole sections into another document.
It works best with PDFs that were created digitally, such as documents exported from Word, reports, contracts, letters and invoices. A scanned page has no text inside, only an image of the paper, so it is placed in the Word file as a picture. Very complex forms and tables may need some touching up after the conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the Word document after converting?
Yes. The text comes out as normal Word paragraphs with their headings, bold and italic, so you can type, delete and reformat anything. The file is a standard DOCX that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Apple Pages.
What happens with scanned PDFs?
A scanned PDF is a photo of paper with no text inside, so there is nothing to turn into paragraphs. Those pages are added to the Word document as pictures, so nothing is lost, but the text on them cannot be edited without OCR software.
Are tables and the layout kept exactly?
Text, headings, lists, images and columns are rebuilt in reading order. Simple tables come out as lines of text, one row per line, and the exact position of every element may shift a little, because Word flows text in paragraphs while a PDF fixes it on the page.
How do I convert a PDF to Word on my phone?
Open this page in Safari, Chrome or any other mobile browser, tap Select PDF file and pick your PDF from Files or Downloads. The DOCX is saved to your phone and opens in the Word, Google Docs or Pages app.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, invoices and other private documents are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
