Word to Text in 3 steps
- Select your Word files (DOCX), or drop them on the box.
- Click Convert to TXT.
- Download the TXT file, or all of them in a ZIP.
What ends up in the TXT file
Every paragraph of the document becomes a line of text, with a blank line between paragraphs so it stays easy to read. Bulleted and numbered lists keep their bullets and numbers, nested items are indented, and each table row becomes one line with the cells separated by tabs, so it pastes neatly into a spreadsheet. Footnotes are collected at the end. The file is saved in UTF-8, which keeps accents and every alphabet.
Plain text is the most portable format there is: it opens in any editor on any system, and it is what translation tools, AI assistants, subtitle and screen-reader software, databases and scripts usually want. Fonts, colours and pictures are dropped on purpose. If you need them, Word to HTML keeps the structure and the images.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a DOCX file to TXT?
Select the DOCX file and click Convert to TXT. The text file downloads straight away and opens in Notepad, TextEdit or any other editor. You can convert up to 20 Word documents at once and get them together in a ZIP.
Are lists and tables kept?
Their content is. List items keep their bullet or number and nested items are indented. Table rows become lines with tabs between the cells, which keeps columns apart and pastes cleanly into Excel or Google Sheets.
What happens to images and formatting?
A TXT file can only hold text, so pictures, fonts, colours, bold and italic are left out, and headings become normal lines. To keep headings, lists, links and pictures, use Word to HTML or Word to Markdown instead.
What about tracked changes and comments?
The text is taken as it would look with every tracked change accepted: inserted words are included and deleted words are left out. Comments and hidden text are not copied into the TXT file.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, CVs, reports and notes are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
