GIF to JPG in 3 steps

  1. Select your GIF images, or drop them on the box.
  2. Click Convert to JPG.
  3. Download each JPG, or all of them in a ZIP.

When a GIF has to be a JPG

Profile photo uploads, online forms, printing services and some document tools accept only JPG or PNG. The converter turns each GIF into a standard JPG at 92 percent quality that every device and program opens. Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG has no transparency.

An animated GIF becomes a JPG of its first frame, since JPG is a still image format. GIF images are limited to 256 colours, so photos stored as GIF may show colour banding; the conversion keeps what is there but does not add any.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert GIF to JPG?

Select one or more GIF files and click Convert to JPG. Each JPG downloads straight away, or all of them together in a ZIP. You can convert up to 20 images at a time, free and without a watermark.

Which frame of an animated GIF is used?

The first frame. JPG cannot store animation, so the converter takes the first picture of the GIF, which is usually the one shown as its preview. The rest of the animation is not included.

What happens to transparent parts of the GIF?

They become white, because JPG has no transparent pixels. If you need to keep the transparency, for a logo or a sticker for example, convert the GIF to PNG instead.

Will the JPG be smaller than the GIF?

For photos and images with many colours, usually yes. For simple graphics with a few flat colours, such as logos and diagrams, a GIF or PNG is often smaller and sharper than a JPG.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Images are decoded and converted inside your browser on your own device, so scans of documents and private photos are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
