What you can change in a PDF here, and what you cannot
Most "edit PDF" jobs are about adding things: filling in a form that has no fields, writing a date or a reference number, putting your logo on a quote, circling a figure in a report, highlighting the lines that matter or drawing an arrow for a colleague. The editor shows each page as it is and lets you place text boxes (Helvetica, Times or Courier, any size and colour, bold or italic), PNG and JPG images, rectangles, ellipses, lines, arrows and freehand strokes with a pen or a highlighter. Everything can be moved, resized, deleted and undone before you save.
Your edits are written into the PDF as real objects on top of the original page, which is not turned into a picture: the existing text stays sharp, selectable and searchable, and so does the text you type in Latin, Greek or Cyrillic letters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic are added as a sharp image). The tool does not rewrite the text that is already in the file. To change a word, cover it with the whiteout tool and type the new one on top, keeping in mind that the original word is hidden, not deleted.
Frequently asked questions
How do I edit a PDF for free?
Select your PDF here and choose a tool: Text to type on the page, Image to add a picture, Shape for boxes, circles and arrows, Draw for freehand and highlighting, or Whiteout to cover something. Move and resize what you added, then click Save PDF. There is no account, no watermark and no limit.
Can I change the text that is already in my PDF?
Not directly: the editor adds new content on top of the page instead of rewriting what is there. To replace a word or a number, draw a whiteout box over it and type the new text on top in a similar font and size. For long rewrites, converting the PDF to Word is usually easier.
Does whiteout remove the information underneath?
No. Whiteout paints a white rectangle over that part of the page, so it is hidden when viewed or printed, but the original text and images are still inside the file and can be copied or recovered. It is not a secure redaction, so do not rely on it to hide passwords, ID numbers or confidential data.
Can I edit a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open this page on an iPhone or Android phone and select the PDF from Files or your downloads. Tap a tool, then tap or drag on the page with your finger; pinch or use the zoom buttons to see small text up close. Everything you add can be dragged with one finger and resized from its corners.
Will editing reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. The original pages are kept exactly as they were, with no re-compression and no conversion to images. What you add is written as text and vector drawings, and images are embedded at their own resolution, so the file stays sharp at any zoom and prints cleanly.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The editing happens inside your browser on your own device, so your PDF, the text you type and the images you add are never sent to us or stored anywhere. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the editor keeps working.
