Resize image to 1000 × 1000 for Amazon

Amazon enables zoom on product images that are at least 1000 pixels on the longest side. A 1000 × 1000 square on white meets that with the whole product in view.

Is the white fill the white Amazon wants?

In a JPG, Fit the whole picture fills the empty sides with exactly RGB 255, 255, 255, the pure white Amazon staff give for main images. So the bars themselves pass. The question is your photo: if its background is light grey or slightly warm, as most home and phone shots are, you get a visible seam where the photo meets the pure white. Shoot on a white sweep or in a light box, with enough light that the background comes out truly white, then resize here.

A PNG with transparency gets transparent bars instead of white. For the Amazon main image, upload a JPG.

Fill at least 85% of the frame

Amazon staff posts say the product should fill 85% or more of the image. Fit the whole picture never enlarges the product beyond the photo, so if the item is small in the middle of a wide shot, it stays small in the square. Crop tightly around the product with Crop Image first, leaving a thin margin, then resize. For a wide product, the bars above and below are part of the 15% left over.

1000 pixels is the floor for zoom, not the ceiling

The same posts give 1000 px on the longest side as the minimum for zoom, and accept images from 500 up to 10,000 px. Bigger works better: if your camera photo is large, type 1600 or 2000 in both boxes for a sharper zoom. Do not enlarge a small image to 1000 just to pass; zoom will show it soft.

These figures come from Amazon staff in the Seller Forums. Category style guides can add rules, so check the image requirements for your category in Seller Central before a big upload.
