XLSX to CSV without losing zeros or accents
Online shops, email tools, banks and databases usually import CSV, not Excel. The converter writes each cell as you see it in Excel: postcodes and phone numbers keep their leading zeros, dates keep their format, and formulas are saved as their calculated result. Accents and other alphabets are stored in UTF-8, the encoding nearly every import tool expects.
Use a comma separator for most websites and apps, and a semicolon if the CSV will be opened in Excel in a country that writes decimals with a comma, such as Spain, France or Germany. A workbook with several sheets can be converted one sheet at a time or all at once, one CSV per sheet in a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert XLSX to CSV?
Select the XLSX file, choose the sheet and the separator, and click Convert to CSV. The CSV downloads straight away. Older XLS and LibreOffice ODS files work the same way.
Will leading zeros be kept?
Yes. Each cell is written as it is displayed, so a postcode shown as 01234 or a code shown as 000123 stays exactly like that in the CSV instead of turning into a plain number.
Can I convert a workbook with several sheets?
A CSV file can only hold one table, so choose a sheet from the list, or choose All sheets to get one CSV per sheet, packed in a ZIP and named after each sheet.
Comma or semicolon: which separator should I use?
Use a comma unless the program you import into asks for something else. Choose a semicolon for Excel in countries that use a decimal comma, and Tab when the data itself contains many commas.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so customer lists, prices and payroll data are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it works even offline.
