PNG keeps transparency but produces heavy files, especially for photos and detailed graphics. WebP supports transparency too and compresses far better, so a converted image is often 50 to 80 percent smaller. That makes it ideal for product photos with cut-out backgrounds, illustrations and website graphics.
The conversion uses high-quality settings, so the difference is not visible at normal size. For pixel-perfect needs, such as screenshots you will edit later, keep the PNG as your master copy.

Is WebP better than PNG?
For publishing on the web, usually yes: WebP files are much smaller and still support transparency. PNG remains the better choice as an editing master or when a program does not accept WebP, because PNG is lossless and universally supported.
Does WebP support transparency?
Yes. WebP has a full alpha channel, just like PNG, so transparent and semi-transparent areas such as soft shadows are kept when you convert. Your logo or cut-out photo can sit on any background.
Will I lose quality converting PNG to WebP?
The image is saved at high quality, where differences are not visible to the eye. Strictly speaking a little detail is discarded to make the file smaller, so keep your original PNG if you plan to edit the image again.
How do I convert many PNGs to WebP at once?

Are my files uploaded to a server?
