How it works
Your files are converted on your own device, inside the browser. Here is what that means, who runs this site and how it stays free.
- No sign-up
- No watermark
- Files stay on your device
Your files stay on your device
Most online converters upload your file to a server, convert it there and send it back. Here the conversion code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your computer or phone. The file you select is read and written locally and is never sent to us. You can check it yourself: open a tool, turn on airplane mode and convert a file. It still works.
Some tools need a bigger engine the first time, such as the OCR language models or the speech recognition model for transcription. They are downloaded once from this site and kept by your browser; your files still stay on your device.
Free, and how we pay for it
Every tool is free for files up to 50 MB, without an account, a watermark or a daily limit. Because the work happens on your device, each conversion costs us almost nothing. The site is paid for by an optional Pro plan for people who need bigger files and batches, and by a single-job pass for one large file.
Who we are
FreeOnlineFileConvert is made by Lupo Rooms S.L., a small company in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain. You can write to us at info@freeonlinefileconvert.com; a person reads every message.
Frequently asked questions
Do you keep a copy of my files?
No. Files are processed in your browser and never reach our servers, so there is nothing to keep or delete. We only count anonymous usage, such as which tools are used, to improve the site.
Why do some tools say a browser is not supported?
A few tools use newer browser features, such as video encoding. When your browser lacks one, the page says so before you start. An up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari supports almost everything.
Can I use the tools offline?
Once a tool page has loaded, most tools keep working without a connection, because everything they need is already in your browser.
