When to watermark a PDF
A watermark tells whoever opens the file how to treat it: DRAFT on a version that is not final, CONFIDENTIAL on a contract, SAMPLE on a portfolio, or "Copy for the landlord" on an ID document you are asked to send. It does not stop anyone from reading the document, but it makes it clear where a copy came from and discourages reuse.
The text is drawn on top of each page in a soft grey at the opacity you choose, so the content underneath stays readable. Any language and alphabet works, including accents, Cyrillic, Chinese and Japanese. The watermark is part of the page as an image, so it cannot simply be selected and deleted like normal text.

How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Select the PDF, type your text, choose where it goes and how strong it looks, then click Add watermark. Every page gets the watermark and the new file downloads straight away.
Can people remove the watermark?
Not with a simple click: it is placed on the page as a picture, not as editable text. Someone with professional PDF software can still remove almost anything, so a watermark deters copying rather than making it impossible.
Should I watermark copies of my ID or passport?
It is a good habit. A watermark such as "Only for the rental of flat 3B, May 2026" placed across the document makes a stolen copy much less useful for fraud, while the details stay readable for the person who needs them.
Can I add an image or logo as a watermark?
This tool adds text watermarks. To use a logo, you can turn the logo into a page of its own with JPG to PDF, but placing an image over every page is not available here yet.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, statements and other private documents are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
