PNG or JPG: which one should you use?
PNG keeps every pixel, which is perfect for logos and screenshots but makes photos very heavy. JPG uses smart compression designed for photographs, so the same picture is often five to ten times smaller with no visible difference.
Convert to JPG when a website, a form or an email has a size limit, or when you want photos to load faster. Keep PNG when you need a transparent background, because JPG does not support transparency: transparent areas become white.

Why is my JPG so much smaller than the PNG?
JPG compresses images by removing detail the eye barely notices, while PNG keeps every pixel. For photos this usually cuts the size by 70 to 90 percent with no difference you can see at normal size.
What happens to a transparent background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep the transparency, stay with PNG or convert to WebP instead.
What quality setting is used?
Images are saved at 92 percent JPG quality, a level where compression artefacts are not visible to the eye while the file stays much smaller than the PNG.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to us or stored anywhere. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
