Crop Image in 3 steps
- Select your image, or drop it on the box.
- Choose a ratio or keep it free, then drag the box and its corners over the part to keep.
- Click Crop image and download it.
Which ratio to choose
Square (1:1) fits profile pictures and most social media posts. 4:3 and 3:2 are the shapes of phone and camera photos, useful to tidy up a picture without changing its look. 16:9 matches screens, YouTube thumbnails and presentation slides, and 9:16 is the vertical format of stories and reels. Free lets you draw any rectangle.
The size of the result in pixels is shown under the preview while you drag. The cropped image keeps the format of the original: a JPG stays a JPG and a PNG keeps its transparent background. Cropping only removes pixels and never adds any, so a small crop of a small photo gives a small image.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image online?
Select the image, choose a ratio or keep Free, then drag the box over the part you want to keep and pull its corners to resize it. Click Crop image and the cropped picture downloads in the same format as the original.
How do I crop a photo to a square?
Choose "1:1 square" as the ratio. The box locks to a perfect square: move it over the face or object and resize it from a corner. That is the shape Instagram, WhatsApp and most profile pictures use.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
The pixels you keep are not resized, so the picture looks just as sharp as before. A JPG is saved again at high quality (92 percent), which the eye cannot tell apart, and a PNG is saved without any loss at all.
Can I crop a PNG and keep the transparent background?
Yes. A PNG is cropped and saved as PNG, so transparent areas stay transparent, and the same goes for WebP images. Other formats, such as GIF, BMP or AVIF, are saved as PNG so that nothing is lost.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The image is cropped inside your browser on your own device and is never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded you can even disconnect from the internet and the tool keeps working.
