From LibreOffice to Word without surprises
Word opens ODT files, but many people do not know that, and online forms, recruiters and clients often ask for a .docx. The converter reads the ODT document and writes a real Word file: paragraphs and headings with Word heading styles, fonts, sizes and colours, alignment and spacing, real bulleted and numbered lists, tables with merged cells and backgrounds, pictures, links, page size, margins, and headers and footers with page numbers.
Drawings, charts, frames placed freely on the page, comments and tracked changes are not carried over, and footnotes become numbered notes at the end. For documents built on complex LibreOffice templates, open the result in Word and check the layout before sending it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the DOCX file in Word?
Yes. The result is a normal Word document with real text, heading styles, lists and tables, so you can keep editing it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice itself.
What is the difference between ODT and DOCX?
Both are zipped XML formats for text documents. ODT is the open standard used by LibreOffice and OpenOffice; DOCX is Microsoft Word’s format. They store the same things in different ways, which is why layouts can shift a little between programs.
Are images and tables kept?
Yes. Pictures placed in the text keep their size, and tables keep their columns, merged cells and cell colours. Pictures anchored freely on the page are placed in the flow of the text, near where they were.
Can I convert several ODT files at once?
Yes. Select up to 20 ODT files and each becomes its own Word document. With more than one file, you can also download them all together in a single ZIP.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so contracts, CVs, reports and letters are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded it keeps working even without an internet connection.
