Compress Image in 3 steps
- Select your images, or drop them on the box.
- Choose a compression level, or a maximum size such as 100 KB.
- Click Compress images and download the smaller files.
How much can you compress an image?
A photo straight from a phone is often 3 to 6 MB. With the Recommended level it usually drops by 60 to 80 percent and still looks the same on screen. When a form says "maximum 100 KB" or "under 1 MB", pick that size and the tool finds the highest quality that fits. Tiny limits such as 50 or 20 KB work too: the dimensions are reduced automatically.
JPG and WebP images stay in their format. PNG has no lossy mode, so a PNG is saved as JPG, or as WebP when it has a transparent background so the transparency is kept. If a result would be larger than your original, you get the original back instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image without losing quality?
Choose Light or Recommended. These levels remove detail the eye does not notice at normal size, so the picture looks the same while the file gets much smaller. Every compression removes some data, but at these levels the difference is not visible.
How do I compress an image to 100 KB, 50 KB or 20 KB?
Pick the size in the Compression menu, for example "Under 50 KB". The tool keeps the best quality that fits and, for very small sizes such as 20 KB for a scanned signature, reduces the dimensions automatically. 1 KB counts as 1000 bytes, the same way upload forms measure it.
Is it better to compress or resize an image?
Do both when the image is much larger than it will be displayed. Resizing reduces the number of pixels, compression reduces how much space each pixel takes. A 4000-pixel photo shown 1200 pixels wide shrinks far more after resizing.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Open this page in your phone browser, select photos from your gallery and download the compressed copies. iPhone photos in HEIC format need to be saved as JPG first, or shared as "Most Compatible" from the Photos app.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to us or stored anywhere. Once the page has loaded you could even disconnect from the internet and it would keep working.
