Readable YAML from any JSON
JSON is what APIs and programs produce; YAML is what people prefer to read and edit by hand. Converting an API response, a package manifest or an exported setting to YAML removes the braces and most of the quotes, so the structure shows through indentation alone.
The output uses two-space indentation and never wraps long lines. Strings are quoted only when YAML would otherwise read them as something else, such as "true", "007" or "2026-03-15", so the values keep their exact type when the file is read back. Any valid JSON is also valid YAML, so nothing is lost on the way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert JSON to YAML?
Select your JSON file and click Convert to YAML. The tool checks the JSON, writes it as YAML with two-space indentation and downloads a .yaml file. If the JSON is invalid, you see the parser message so you can fix it first.
Why are some values in quotes?
Values that YAML would read as a number, a boolean, null or a date are quoted when they were text in the JSON. For example the string "007" stays "007" instead of becoming the number 7. Plain text without that risk is written without quotes.
Can I use the result in Kubernetes or Docker Compose?
Yes, as long as the JSON has the structure those tools expect. The YAML holds exactly the same data, so a manifest exported as JSON with kubectl, for example, can be converted, edited and applied again.
Does the YAML keep the order of the keys?
Yes. Keys appear in the same order as in the JSON file, and lists keep the order of their entries, so the YAML is easy to compare with the original and with earlier versions in your repository.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The JSON is converted inside your browser on your own device, so settings, secrets or customer data in it never leave your computer. Once the page has loaded, the converter keeps working even without an internet connection.
