A PSD is a working file, a JPG is for sharing
A Photoshop document can weigh hundreds of megabytes because it keeps every layer, mask and history of the design. To send a proof to a client, post a mock-up, attach a flyer to an email or print a poster at a shop, you need a single picture that every phone and computer opens. JPG is that picture: small, universal and good for photos and rich artwork.
The converter uses the flattened image Photoshop saves inside the file, so text, effects and adjustment layers look exactly as designed. Transparent areas become white, since JPG has no transparency; choose PSD to PNG for logos and cut-outs. CMYK print files are converted to RGB screen colours with the colour profile saved in the file, 16-bit and 32-bit files are reduced to normal 8-bit colour, and PSB large documents work too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a PSD file without Photoshop?
Select it here and click Convert to JPG. In a few seconds you can see and share the design as a normal picture, on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone, with nothing to install.
What happens to transparent areas?
They become white, because JPG cannot store transparency. If you need the transparent background, use PSD to PNG instead.
Do CMYK colours stay correct?
Yes. CMYK print files are converted to the RGB colours screens use with the colour profile saved inside the PSD, such as Coated FOGRA39 or U.S. Web Coated SWOP, so the JPG looks like Photoshop shows it on screen. Files without a profile use a standard conversion.
Can I convert several PSD files at once?
Yes. Select up to 20 files and each one becomes its own JPG; download them separately or together in a ZIP.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Every PSD is read and converted inside your browser on your own device, so nothing reaches a server.
